The Big Three

The Miami Heat Big 3
LeBron James, Dewayne Wade, Chris Bosh

As many of you know I am an avid LeBron James fan and have been since he came into the NBA. I sat in front of my television that infamous night that he announced he was taking his talents to South Beach on ESPN during their show entitled “The Decision”. I agree that was not the best decision on how to communicate the decision but I have always believed he made the right decision to leave Cleveland and to go Miami where he could play with a team of others who could help him win a championship. After “The Decision” there was a huge uproar about “The Big 3” which was comprised of Dwayne Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh. In watching the NBA this season, I have noticed that teams that are most effective seem to have a “Big 3” on their team. The Oklahoma City Thunder have Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Hardin. The Los Angeles Lakers have Kobe Bryant, Paul Gasol and Andrew Bynam. The San Antonio Spurs have Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli. Based on my observation, I would say it takes a “Big 3” to win in the NBA.

Just like it takes a “Big 3” to win in the NBA, it takes a “Big 3” to win in the Christian life. It takes God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Many of us have embraced God the Father who meets our needs or God the Son who died for our sins but we often neglect God the Holy Spirit who is our teacher, corrector, convincer and comforter while we are living a life for Christ here on earth.

The GiftAt Full Life Community Church we are currently teaching a series entitled, “The Gift: Unwrapping the Gift of the Holy Spirit”. During this series we are unwrapping the beautiful gift that the Holy Spirit is to every believer and challenges ourselves to not neglect his presence in our lives. Last week we talked about who He is and what He does. This week we will discuss the gifts that he gives to believers after conversion and next week we will discuss the power he gives us to go out and be witnesses in our world. I encourage you to join us each Sunday at 10:10am at the Wells Branch Community Library to learn more about the Holy Spirit.

Last night the Miami Heat had a must win game on Oklahoma City’s home court. During the playoffs, Chris Bosh one of Miami’s “Big 3” has been injured and unable to play. During the final two games of the last series against the Boston Celtics he was able to play sparingly. The first game of the NBA finals he came off the bench and the Miami Heat lost the game so last night Coach Erik Spoelstra put him back in the starting line-up where he belonged. Chris Bosh performed well and the Miami Heat won the game. Today I want to challenge each of us to move the Holy Spirit off the bench in our lives and put him back in our starting line-up where he can make major plays at the beginning of our day, the beginning of our challenge or the beginning of our triumph. The Holy Spirit deserves to be in your starting line up.

To learn more about the Holy Spirit, I encourage you to read “Forgotten God” by Francis Chan. Full Life Community Church will be hosting a workshop on “Forgotten God” using the Workbook that Francis Chan has created to complement his book. The workshop will be held on Friday June 29th and Saturday June 30th. If you are interesting in attending you can REGISTER HERE!

In the meantime, take the Holy Spirit of the bench today and put him in your starting line-up!
