Why Wait?

Including today, there are 40 days until the end of the year. When we look in scripture, we see that a lot can happen in 40 days. In Genesis, the first book of the Old Testament, it rained 40 days and 40 nights when the earth was flooding and Noah’s family was saved in the Ark. In Matthew, the first book of the New Testament, Jesus fasted for 40 days and 40 nights after being baptized by John the Baptist. Later He was tempted by Satan and resisted.

If the world can be flooded and a new starter family saved or Jesus can fast for 40 days leading to strength over temptation, what could happen in our lives in 40 days. Why wait 40 days to set a new resolution or try to lose weight? Why wait 40 days to develop a debt reduction plan or get organized? Why wait 40 days to set goals or start forgiving? So much can happen in the next 40 days that set you up well for the next 365 days. New Year’s Day can be so much more fulfilling based on what you do in the next 40 days.

There’s an App for That!

Make a brief list of three areas you would like to grow in over the next 40 days.
Write down your plan
Invite someone to ask you about it weekly.
Plan how you will celebrate your 40 day changes.

Why wait? We can start today! Know that I am changing with you and rooting for you!

2 Months Left

There are two months left in the year. What goals that you set to accomplish at the beginning of the year can still be accomplished?

We often set goals higher than we can achieve because we are excited and passionate about changing our lives. With two months left, the key to reaching goals is effectively setting goals. With 9 weeks left, only so much can be done so I recommend setting 3 S.M.A.R.T. goals for the remainder of the year.

S – Specific
M – Measurable
A – Attainable
R – Realistic
T – Timely

S.M.A.R.T goals allow is to create realistic goals that can be accomplished in a certain time period. Each goal should have 1-3 plans associated with it and at least one person in our life who can hold us accountable to accomplishing the goal.

For example, someone’s goal could be to lose 10lbs by the end if the year. That is about 1lbs a week. It’s a S.M.A.R.T. goal. Plans connected to this goal could be:

1. Engage in three 30 minute high impact workouts per week.

2. Eliminate sodas and juices from my diet.

3. Stop eating after 7pm.

The final step would be to invite someone to be a goal partner who can shoot for this goal with you or an accountability partner who can ask you about your goal weekly.

Implementing these steps could help you gain some momentum going into next year. Later we’ll discuss how to plan for the year.
